Large group moderation
The key advantage of the large group methods is their huge range, which enables a thousand and more people to be reached with ease. Large group methods are suitable not only for dialog, learning, planning, review and change processes in organizations and agencies. In addition to their integration into organizational development processes, they are also extremely effective when applied to staging annual conferences, field staff meetings, scientific conferences and cooperation between community and cantonal bodies, etc.
A range of methods has been developed in recent years to support the concept: Future Conference, Real Time Strategic Change (RTSC), Open Space Technology, Appreciative Inquiry (AI) and World Café.
- The group experience promotes a feeling of togetherness
- Shared assumption of responsibility for problems without delegating them to sub-groups
- Focus on problem-solving resulting from the formation of a shared perspective
- Energy and emotions are mobilized among participants, which has an effect on implementation
- Concentration of differing perspectives and energies for a common aim
- High exchange of information among participants during a limited period of time
- The important issues for the organization are brought up
- The organization’s values become apparent in these events
